    SEOUL, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Real estate assets, such as land and building, took up three-fourths of net assets owned last year by South Korean households, a government data showed Tuesday.

    National net assets, or assets minus debts, amounted to 13,817.5 trillion won (12.5 trillion U.S. dollars) in 2017, up 5.7 percent from the previous year, according to joint data by Statistics Korea and the Bank of Korea (BOK).

    Of the total assets, non-financial assets of households accounted for 75 percent as land possessions took up more than half of the non-financial assets.

    Land assets amounted to 7,438.8 trillion won (6.7 billion U.S. dollars), while building assets reached 4,597.8 trillion won (4.2 billion U.S. dollars).

    Prices for non-financial assets gained 3.9 percent in 2017, the fastest increase since 2007. It contributed to growth in non-financial assets last year.

    Net financial assets, or financial assets minus financial debts, came in at 266 trillion won (241 billion U.S. dollars) in 2017, down 69.8 trillion won (63.1 billion U.S. dollars) from the previous year.
