OTTAWA, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Canada's Manitoba on Thursday declared another province-wide state of emergency as wildfires continue to threaten communities.

The provincial government said in a news release that the declaration was based on the recommendation from the province's wildfire and emergency management officials.

Manitoba previously declared a state of emergency on May 28 that was lifted on June 23.

"This fire season, Manitoba is seeing over 10 times the number of hectares burning compared to the average fire season," said Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew in the release. "As the number of active fires increases, our government has again triggered a province-wide state of emergency that will help secure the spaces needed to accommodate the affected evacuees."

According to the release, in addition to the province-wide state of emergency declaration, a number of local states of emergency are already in place, including Snow Lake, where mandatory evacuations have begun. All residents and visitors are required to evacuate the communities as soon as possible before Thursday midnight.

Over a million hectares had burned in Manitoba wildfires as of Tuesday and that was nearly 11 times the 20-year average of 94,000 hectares by this time of year, local media reported.
