KIGALI, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Rwanda has condemned the strike carried out by Israel against the Hamas in Doha, Qatar, according to a statement released on Thursday.
On Tuesday, Israel carried out an airstrike in Doha, targeting a building used by senior Hamas officials in what Israeli authorities described as an assassination attempt on the group's leaders.
The statement, shared on the government's official social media account, said the strike is a "wanton trampling of foundational norms of interstate relations," and warned that such actions are dangerously steering the world toward a "no-rules-based order" unprecedented in contemporary history.
Rwanda criticized the ongoing escalation as senseless and lamented what it described as the international community's complacency and hypocrisy, which leave the world vulnerable to growing chaos and uncertainty.
Highlighting Qatar's significant role in mediating complex conflicts in the Middle East and Africa, the Rwandan government affirmed that this contribution "merits universal appreciation and gratitude."
According to the statement, Rwanda urged a "principled, pragmatic and swift resolution to the ongoing conflict in the region."
Hamas said Tuesday evening that the strike occurred while its delegation was discussing a new cease-fire proposal presented by the United States. According to the group, five of its members and a Qatari security officer were killed during the strike, while key members of the negotiating team survived.
In a joint statement, the Israeli military and the Shin Bet security agency said the strike targeted Hamas leaders "directly responsible for the Oct. 7 massacre" and used "precise munitions and intelligence" to limit civilian harm. ■
