PHNOM PENH, June 7 (Xinhua) -- A six-month exhibition on "Angkor and China: Ceramic Roof Tiles Tradition and Maritime Trade Road" has been held at the Preah Norodom Sihanouk-Angkor Museum in northwest Cambodia's Siem Reap province, the APSARA National Authority (ANA) said in a news release on Saturday.

Hosted by ANA, the government agency responsible for managing, safeguarding and preserving the UNESCO-listed Angkor Archaeological Park, in collaboration with the Department of Anthropology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the exhibition was officially launched on Friday.

"The exhibition aims to highlight the ceramic industry during the Angkor period and its connections with China," ANA's deputy director-general Long Kosal said.

"It offers a fresh perspective on Angkor's legacy by exploring cultural, social, and commercial interactions between the two countries," he added.

Visitors can enjoy the exhibition from June 6 until December 31, 2025. Through it, they will have an opportunity to view various art objects sourced from excavations, restorations, and conservation efforts.

Angkor is one of the most important archaeological sites in Southeast Asia.

Stretching over some 400 square kilometers, including forested area, Angkor Archaeological Park contains the magnificent remains of the different capitals of the Khmer Empire, from the ninth to the 15th century, according to UNESCO.

They include the famous Temple of Angkor Wat, the Bayon Temple and Banteay Srei Temple with their countless sculptural decorations.

The Angkor Archaeological Park, the kingdom's most popular tourist destination, attracted a total of 527,577 international tourists during the January-May period of 2025, generating a gross revenue of 24.5 million U.S. dollars from ticket sales, according to the state-owned Angkor Enterprise.

The top five source markets for the ancient park are the United States, Britain, France, China, and South Korea. ■
