NEW YORK, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks opened higher on Tuesday as a rebound in the Turkish lira eased fears about the financial crisis, although concerns over contagion in emerging economies remained.

Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 85.81 points, or 0.34 percent, to 25,273.51. The S&P 500 was up 11.71 points, or 0.41 percent, to 2,833.64. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 30.36 points, or 0.39 percent, to 7,850.06.

Investor sentiment was lifted after the Turkish lira bounced back from a record low in the previous session.

Some positive data also underpinned the market.

U.S. small business optimism index marked its second highest level in the survey's 45-year history at 107.9, rising to within 0.1 point of the July 1983 record high of 108, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) reported on Tuesday.

The index measures the opinion of small businesses on the economic conditions in the country.
