RAMALLAH, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh said on Thursday that "not a single Israeli soldier will be accepted to remain on the Palestinian land."

His comments came in reaction to statements made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in New York regarding keeping Israeli security forces in areas west of the Jordan River.

According to statements of official Palestinian news agency WAFA, Abu Rudeineh said "we would only accept an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital."

"We will not accept the presence of a single occupation soldier on our Palestinian land," he said, stressing that Israeli settlements are illegal and "any thoughts or suggestions that disregard this matter will be rejected and are unacceptable."

According to Israeli media, Netanyahu said in New York that Israel must control security west of Jordan to the Mediterranean, even under any peace agreement with Palestinians.

He noted that he will not allow the Palestinians to have any potential to harm Israelis.
