SUVA, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Jiko Luveni was re-elected as Fiji's Parliament Speaker for the second term on Monday.

Nominated by the Fijian government whip and Assistant Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations and Youth and Sports Alvick Maharaj, Luveni was elected as parliament speaker after getting 27 votes from the ruling FijiFirst party led by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

A member of the FijiFirst party before resigning her party membership in order to take up the position of speaker, Luveni graduated in dentistry from the Fiji School of Medicine in 1967. She first became the island nation's parliament speaker in 2014.

Fiji's general elections, the second since 2014, was held on November 14, and the result was a victory for the ruling party, which received 27 of the 51 seats in parliament. The elections also saw female representation in parliament rise to 20 percent, with 10 women elected.
