YANGON, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi left Nay Pyi Taw on an official visit to Nepal Thursday and attend the Asia Pacific Summit 2018 to be held in Kathmandu, said a release from the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Suu Kyi is making the trip at the invitation of Nepalese Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli.

During her three-day Nepal trip, Suu Kyi is expected to meet Nepalese government leadership and have talks on matters of mutual interest of the two countries.

Suu Kyi's visit to Nepal is the first in her capacity as state counselor since June 2014 when she visited Kathmandu as then opposition leader.

The Asia-Pacific Summit 2018, scheduled for Nov. 30 to Dec. 3 in Kathmandu and will be attended by Suu Kyi, is to address the critical challenges, including independence, mutual prosperity and universal values.

The summit will bring together heads of states and governments, lawmakers, eminent leaders, businessmen and leaders of civil society of the Asia Pacific region.

The summit will have several discussions on diverse topics such as climate change, peace and development, good governance, conflict resolution as well as strengthening marriage and family institutions with the aim of supporting the 2030 agenda for sustainable development.

Suu Kyi's trip also followed that of President U Win Myint to Nepal in August this year on the occasion of the 4th Summit of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) in the Nepalese capital.
