RABAT, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Japanese counterpart Taro Kono vowed Monday in capital Rabat to boost bilateral cooperation.

In a statement to the press after talks between the two ministers, Bourita noted that the two sides agreed to strengthen political consultations, hold a joint inter-ministerial committee next year, and sign in the shortest terms agreements on investment protection and non-double taxation.

He said that regional issues of common interest and counterterrorism cooperation were also discussed.

The Moroccan minister hailed the visit of Kono to Morocco, noting that it was the first by a Japanese foreign minister in 31 years.

For his part, Kono said his country is willing to give new impetus to cooperation with Morocco in various areas.

He highlighted the growing Japanese investment in Morocco, noting that the kingdom hosts the second highest number of Japanese firms in Africa.

He also underlined that the cooperation between the two countries can further contribute to the development of the African continent.
