SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Two policemen including an officer were wounded on Thursday in a grenade attack in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The policemen were attacked during a cordon operation at Warpora village of Sopore town in Baramulla district, about 53 km northwest of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"This morning militants lobbed a grenade at a police party in Warpora Sopore, wounding Station House Officer Dangiwacha and his escort personnel," a police official said. "Both of them have been removed to a hospital."

According to a police spokesman, the village has been cordoned off and searches were going on.

"It's part of gunfight site where government forces are engaged in a stand-off with militants," the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, a separate gunfight between militants and Indian troops has started at Kalantara Kandi village in the district.

"The exchange of fire is underway," a senior police official said. "Two to three militants are believed to be trapped in the area."

Officials said the village was cordoned off following specific intelligence information suggesting presence of militants.

Reports said government forces have also launched cordon and search operation at village Hajin in adjacent Bandipora district.

Authorities have suspended mobile internet service in both the districts and closed roads leading to the gunfight sites.

A guerilla war is going on between militants and Indian troopers stationed in the region since 1989.
