  • Reforms implemented in Lebanon not enough: World Bank official

    BEIRUT, March 29 (Xinhua) -- World Bank Group Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa Ferid Belhaj said on Friday that more work should be done in Lebanon's reform to have access to funds from the international community.

    "Lebanon has started with reforms but they are still not up to the expected level. This is what we have just told Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil who is very understanding and supportive to these reforms," Belhaj was quoted as saying by the National News Agency.

    His remarks came during his meeting with Khalil to discuss the latest economic developments in the country.

    Belhaj said that the World Bank will help Lebanon in undertaking necessary reforms.

    "We have to have confidence that the government will implement the necessary reforms. But we should move quickly because time has become very sensitive now," he said.

    Lebanon secured the loans and grants from international donors at CEDRE, an international conference in support of Lebanon development and reforms, to revamp its ailing infrastructure and bolster its economy.
