NEW DELHI, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday conducted an aerial survey to assess the loss and destruction caused by cyclone Fani in eastern state Odisha, which wreaked havoc on May 3.

At least 33 people were killed when cyclone Fani hit Odisha and three other eastern coastal states, namely West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

During the aerial survey, Modi was accompanied by Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, besides Oil and Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Ahead of the cyclone, Modi had announced an advance financial package of 1,086 crore Indian Rupees (around 155 million U.S. dollars) to carry out relief, rescue and rehabilitation work in the cyclone-affected areas.
