BRATISLAVA, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Britain showed spirited effort to keep pace with the United States in the first period, but the favorites decided the Group A clash at ice hockey worlds in the second to put the Wednesday game away at 6-3.

Britain are still waiting for their first points in Group A after losing 9-0 to Denmark on Tuesday.

The first period ended in 1-1, but USA took the reigns in the second period with three goals in succession by Clayton Keller, Chris Kreider and Alex Debrincat.

Patrick Kane scored one goal and added two assists to become the best scorer in the history of the US team at the world championship. He helped his team win the bronze medal last year in Denmark and was selected the tournament's MVP with 20 points.

After winning three straight games, Team USA will face Denmark after a two-day rest. Britain will face second-placed Finland on Friday.
